Single Particle Spectrum Calculation in Tight-Binding Model

Author: Tamar Zakareishvili
Annotation:

Annotation The tight-binding model (or TB model) is an approach to the calculation of electronic band structure using an approximate set of wave functions based upon superposition of wave functions for isolated atoms located at each atomic site. The model gives good qualitative results in many cases and can be combined with other models that give better results where the tight-binding model fails. Though the tight-binding model is a one-electron model, the model also provides a basis for more advanced calculations like the calculation of surface states. We used TB model on 1D lattice, where on the nodes ehre electrons, and we calculated energy spectrum of quasiparticle. We aslo used this approach on 2D right-angled lattice and made plots of energy spectrum. To describe graphene, hexagonal lattice, we used this model with little differences. And in the end, we considered 2D right-angled lattice with the effect of spin-orbit interaction.
