Study of seismic activity using geophysical and radio physical hardware complex
Author: Nino KvavadzeAnnotation:
Studying every event is important to use different methods of observations, which will allow us to increase accuracy of obtained data. Seismic activity is a complex problem and its study needs different types of observation methods. The goal of the thesis is to create simultaneous observation system using accelerometer, velocimeter and very low frequency (VLF) electromagnetic waves propagation receiver in ionosphere observations, for seismic activity studies. Development of methods for data processing and pre-analysis of obtained data. System is designed and working in TSU Ionosphere Observatory, data are sent to M. Nodia Institute of Geophysics server. In the thesis is discussed, steps of seismic activity study. For existing earthquake data hypocenter and mechanisms were recalculated, on basis of which new earthquake catalog. VLF transmitters are used for submarine communications. Waves of these frequencies propagate in so called earth-ionosphere waveguide, therefore their amplitude and phase variations strongly depend on earth’s ionosphere conditions. It is considered proven that seismic activity plays some role in ionosphere electron concentration vitiations. Examples are given of earthquakes that were recorded by ionosphere observation. Also local earthquakes were recorded using accelerometer and velocimeter.
