Annotation:

On 13-14th of June, heavy rainfall (according to data from Tbilisi meteorological station, 49 mm precipitations were recorded within 3-4 hours) in Vere River basin and its tributaries caused a sharp increase in the water level, and, as a result of landslide processes, large volumes of mudflow/debris flows generated in the Tskneti-Akhaldaba section, due to which the houses, various infrastructure facilities, buildings located below the lowest mark of the River gorge, as well as Tbilisi Zoo were significantly damaged and/or destroyed. According to the latest data, 19 people died and three people are missing. At this stage, in Vere basin still persist the dangers of activation of natural disastrous processes, because in the river Jokhonisjkhevi (tributary of riv. Vere) are accumulated a lot of materials, which during the heavy rains can cause the formation of debris flow. To avoid human casualties and minimize expected economic losses, we need to provide detailed geomorphological and geological investigation, build the grille type of reinforced concrete construction and establish early warning systems, which will give us opportunity to warn the decision makers and population about the expected hydrometeorological and geological disastrous processes.
