ICON and Adjoint of Advection

Masters's thesis is about the adjoint of the advection equation on the icosahedral triangular grid. The ICON model, a joint project of Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) and German Weather Service (DWD), will be considered. The numerical scheme used in ICON, to solve advection equation, will be recovered from DWD source code. Then, the adjoint numerical scheme for advection is build in the framework of variational data assimilation and corresponding part of code is developed and validated.
